Proverbs 1:7

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,

But fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

Intelligence. We are all born with some measure of it. Some build cities. Some write poems. Some create diseases, and others make the cure for them. But for what all history has shown of human intelligence; we are at our most base outside of the wisdom of Christ. We can have the highest standard of living yet, we have no regard for human life. In the name of “forward” we kill, and oppress each other. The genius are simple without the testimony of the LORD. In Christ is intelligence, and the use for it.

The second part of the verse, “fools despise wisdom and instruction”, applies to us all. We all have the characteristic of wanting to do things our own way. It is difficult to take instruction from anyone. Our pride gets in the way. The whole book of Proverbs is about receiving instruction. The Lord rewards the obedient, and He guides the wise. Jesus give us humble hearts, and the desire to learn from You first, and receive the instruction from those You have put over us.
