Psalm 46

A picture of another world: a place where children walk barefoot because they have no choice, it takes hours to purify your water if it is not boiled; you hate it when it rains because the dirt roads run through your doorway.  That is reality for a large part of the world’s population.  Their advantage however, is that they are without the mask and makeup for their sin.  The ways in which they escape reality are few.  They have a real view of the spiritual world, because it is very present where they live.  It is ultimately easier for them to understand “light” and “darkness”, the power of God, and the power of the evil one.  So a chapter like this Psalm is something they stand on.  They live on a truth like this.  “He makes the wars cease” is their prayer.  “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”, a verse ingrained in their hearts.  But the God that is a present Savior to them is the same God here.  His power is not dependent upon location.  Note this short chapter.  Keep it in your hearts.

Application:  The world is indeed changing.  There is no promise that America will be prosperous forever.  But in whatever situation we should be able to stand with Christ- “even though the earth be moved”!  Commit these verses to memory.
